Interview Question in SQL Server Data Services (SSDS)

Interview Question :: How much does an SQL job pay

I am looking to get into a SQL position (wiht Oracle), and they said with no prior expierance it would be 35K. The job is part customer service, dealing with the customer and explaining to them the database and writing scripts to modify data if they put it in wrong.

Is a job like this a good starting point, or am I heading down the wrong road?

That sounds appropriate for no experience and also depends on education. Sounds like a basic customer support job with coding ability. Not a developer position, more of a help desk. It would be a good place to get your feet wet and get the experience needed to advance in the future. Depending on which direction you want to go after this, then you can ask for larger salaries.

You can go the development route or the DBA route. Oracle Developers and DBAs make between 40k - 100k depending on experience and education. Either route you will need a extra language or two and maybe networking if you go the DBA route.

Good Luck!!

That sounds pretty good to me. Once u get some experience behind you, you can become a consultant and charge big bucks! I remember at one firm where I was a tech support, we converted everything from Filemaker to SQL, the guy that got the contract to do it was in his 20's....charged the company an arm and a leg to get it done.

Anyway where you're starting sounds good. Notice that a lot of high paying jobs all want minimum 2 yrs experience. Get your 2 years then start looking elsewhere.
