RE: I;m studying IT software development ?

Certainly you can. There are four types of Web Application developers:

1. Windows platform engineers (ones who love C#, VB, JSP .NET)

2. LAMP Engineers (the ones who love PHP based stuff)

3. Open Source Specialist Developers (Ruby on rails, Cold fusions also little bit PHP)

4. Oracle platform (Oracle portal, Oracle Database, Oracle Forms and PSP / PL-SQL)

You have a greater chance of success if you go with LAMP. LAMP stands for Linux + Apache + MySQL + PHP. When you apply for PHP jobs and if you claim to be expert on LAMP, you basically just told the employer that you should be hired for PHP development.

Now, let’s take a look at each section of LAMP and see why is it so important:

**********Linux: Even though as a developer you may not have to do an extensive amount of work in linux operating system but PHP mainly runs on Linux which is why the employers want you to know linux. You should buy a book on Linux, install it on your computer and play with it. It is not difficult, you just need to practice.

**********Apache: Apache is a web server application which allows the visitors to see the web page that is stored on your computer (web server). You just need to know basic stuff about apache. The book you will buy to learn PHP will most definitely cover Apache.

**********MySQL: MySQL is a database that is used with PHP. If you learn MySQL then believe me, learning MS SQL or Oracle will be like gravy for you.

**********PHP: And of course with Linux + Apache + MySQL, The reaming is PHP.

Some tips and notes on this:

---When you say that you are good at LAMP , the employer will assume that you are also good at HTML.

---If you learn XML, you will add four stars to your resume

---Due to the current economy, there is a higher chance of you finding a contract job rather than permanent. Besides contract pay more too. Bottom line on this "dont say NO! accept the job get it done to gain experience"

You should be able to get projects ranging from $45 - $85/hour if you can confidently say that you know:

1. Linux

2. Apache

3. PHP (Version 4 and 5)

4. MySQL

5. HTML

6. XML

7. Javascript

8. CSS

9. Graphics (images for the website, normally Photoshop)

I can write all day on this here but will stop here to give you an idea. If something does not make sense to you feel free to contact me.

The journey is little long but never loose hope and keep trying!!! If ever you have a question on programming language do ask and i will be happy to answer or at least refer you to my other engineer friends!

Good luck my friend!
